Caraway are the small, crescent-shaped dried seeds from an herb. They are used whole or ground to add a subtle anise flavoring to baked goods and savory dishes.

To toast caraway seeds:
Place the seeds in a small, dry, heavy frying pan over moderate heat and stir until they are aromatic, 1–2 minutes. Cool slightly before using.
