Pears are subtly sweet and aromatic fruits. Varieties sold fresh include the spicy, smooth-textured Anjou; the fine-textured, mild Bartlett; the juicy Comice; and the slightly grainy, acidy Bosc. Ripe pears are firm but yield to fingertip pressure. Pears are also sold canned.
