Swiss chard or chard or silverbeet, is a leafy, dark green vegetable, related to the beet, with thick, crisp white or red stems and ribs. The leaves, often trimmed from the stems and ribs, are used raw or cooked. Select chard with crisp, unblemished leaves. Wash in cold water, pat dry, and place in a plastic bag lined with paper towels; refrigerate for up to 3 days.
