These rolls can be prepared in either of two ways: with a snowy frosting of baked or unbaked meringue. Baking gives the frosting a hint of color and surface crunch and allows the rolls to be stored for up to 1 day.

Making Meringue
Beat egg whites and sugar mixture at high speed until the meringue stands in glossy peaks.

Spreading Meringue
Spread a swirl of meringue on top of each cooled baked roll with a small spatula.
