Stollen is a European tradition, especially at Christmastime. A profusion of nuts and candied fruits make this sweet bread almost like a fruitcake. Enjoy it with rich coffee or mulled cider.
To create the oval shape that makes this bread so easily identifiable, fold the dough over, but donít let the long ends meet. Donít stretch the dough as you fold it or it will shrink as it bakes.
Let the bread cool completely. Prepare the frosting so it is not too stiff (thinner than spreading consistency). Let the frosting fall in a fine stream from the spoon as you move your hand back and forth across the width of the bread.
