Treacle is the syrupy by-product created during sugar refining process. Commonly used in Great Britain, this product resembles molasses. There are two types: dark treacle and light treacle. Dark treacle is very much like molasses and has a somewhat bitter taste. Light treacle has a lighter color and flavor, and is also called golden syrup.
