Don't know where the name came from but the cookies are delicious. Store for a couple days to let the flavors of the spices build.
INGREDIENTS (for 4 servings):
- 1/3 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup raisins
PREPARATION:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease cookie sheets.
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Stir in the molasses. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and ginger; stir into the molasses mixture alternately with the milk. Finally, mix in the chocolate chips and raisins. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
