Sweet onions sauteed in butter, topped with Swiss cheese and Italian bread, and then smothered in a creamy mushroom soup and soy sauce mixture. This dish needs to be refrigerated over night and then baked.
INGREDIENTS (for 1 servings):
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 4 large sweet onions, sliced
- 1/2 pound Swiss cheese, shredded
- 10 slices Italian bread
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 3 teaspoons soy sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
PREPARATION:
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and saute onions until translucent. Transfer onions to a 9x12 inch casserole dish and sprinkle cheese over onions. Spread butter on both sides of the bread, then lay the bread over the cheese.
In a medium bowl combine milk, soup, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Mix well and pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate over night.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.
