Fresh tomatoes are pureed and simmered with red wine vinegar and sugar and spiced with crushed red pepper, cinnamon and cloves in this easy red sauce.
INGREDIENTS (for 1 servings):
- 11 tomatoes, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed garlic
- 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 whole cloves
PREPARATION:
Puree tomatoes in blender or food processor until smooth. Pour into a large saucepan with the red wine vinegar, sugar, paprika, salt, garlic, crushed red pepper, cinnamon stick and cloves. Simmer over medium-low heat, covered, until thickened and flavors have blended, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick and cloves before serving.
